ABOUT
Sahar Rana is a photographer, director, and artist based in the Greater Toronto Area, with an Honours Bachelor of Photography from Sheridan College.
Sahar’s lens-based work, whether portraiture, still life, or film, is rooted in self-expression and vivid, conceptual storytelling. Her artistic direction features rich colour palettes, dramatic lighting, and intentional narratives. Focusing on bold and contemporary aesthetics, Sahar uses visual language as a tool to make images heard. She reimagines subjects as vibrant, powerful figures rather than passive characters, particularly in her personal work exploring narratives of her lived experience as a first-generation Pakistani-Canadian and Muslim woman.
Sahar has received recognition through awards such as the Pitko Award, Gian Carlo Drueco Award, and the Josko Rosenwirth Scholarship at the 2020 CONTACT Photography Festival.
Select commissions and features include WIRED, The Globe and Mail, Toronto Star, Three Magazine, Reader's Digest Canada, and Doors Open Toronto.
Sahar is also actively working in the Muslim arts community through organizations such as the Mosquers Film Festival and formerly MY Voice Canada, and MuslimFest. She is affiliated with BIPOC Photo Mentorship and Diversify Photo, with a commitment to transforming the visual narrative.
Sahar is currently open to editorial, commercial, and fine art projects.
